PUBLIC NOTICE – TAX INCREASE

The Gwinnett County Tax Assessor is required to review the assessed value of property in the county which includes the cities on a regular basis. When there is a change in the fair market value of property, the Tax Assessor must adjust the value of real property to reflect that fair market value of real property in the county. This process is known as property reassessment.

The Lawrenceville City Council is carrying out a deliberate strategy to increase the quality of life for the citizens of the city by providing additional high quality municipal services. In previous years, the city has rolled back the millage rate so that there was a net tax savings. By not ‘rolling back’ the millage and adopting a millage of 2.025, which is the same as last year, instead of 1.890, the city must advertise a tax increase.

The City of Lawrenceville has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 7.14%. All concerned citizens are invited to two public hearings on this tax increase to be held on July 6, 2016 at Lawrenceville City Hall at 10:00 A.M. and 6:30 P.M. Times and places of additional hearings on this increase are at Lawrenceville City Hall on July 20, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 2.025 mills, an increase of .135 mills. Without this tentative increase, the millage rate will be no more than 1.890 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $175,000 is approximately $6.75 and the proposed tax increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $550,000 is approximately $29.70.
